Aviators Get Past Burlington Central 6-2


MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Butler (1-0) earned the season opening win Monday night, with a 6-2 win over the Burlington Central Rockets (IL) in Game 1 of the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC.


After four innings of scoreless baseball, the Aviators capitalized on a big fifth inning, plating four runs to grab a 4-0 lead and control of what had been a tight game to that point.


Senior Mitch Strehle finished 3-for-3, while Brody Miller went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Strehle, Miller and Mason Reckner combined for six of the Aviators ten hits. Max Rubins added two RBI, and Alex Ables, Hunter Richardson, and Jackson Schilling each contributed an RBI.


Richardson (1-0) earned the win on the mound for Butler, working four solid innings while allowing just two hits and fanning out seven.


Ables came on to provide relief, striking out three to close out the Butler win.


The Aviators return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
