VANDALIA - After nearly a week between Thursday's Sectional Final and the Aviators big win over Moeller on Saturday, any concerns of rust were quickly dispatched as the Aviators rolled to a 12-1 win over Sidney in five innings.
Bolstered by another stellar pitching performance by junior Hunter Richardson (8-0), the Aviators scored early and often enroute to a Sectional Crown, their 20th under head coach Trent Dues.
Butler scattered 13 hits on the day, plating twelve runs while holding the visiting Yellowjackets to just one hit and one unearned run.
Richardson went the distance for Butler and in addition to surrendering a lone hit, the southpaw struck out six and did not issue any free bases.
Freshman Koby Dues was 3-for-3 from the plate for Butler, scoring with runs, one RBI and a double. Richardson also doubled, and had three RBI.
Junior Brody Miller finished 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI, while freshman Jackson Schilling was 2-for-3 with three RBI and senior Mitch Strehle went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Junior Mason Reckner was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
The Aviators return to action on Tuesday, May 21st at 5:00 pm versus Fairmont (22-5) in what should be a heavyweight battle between two of the state's premier teams.
