GROVE CITY - In the Prep Baseball Report Spring Classic at Grove City High School on Saturday, the Aviators overcame an early 3-0 deficit to secure a 5-3 comeback victory against West Clermont in the afternoon timeslot.
Junior Hunter Richardson (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B) tied the game at three a piece in the top of the fifth inning, with a line drive triple to centerfield, scoring fellow junior Max Rubins.
An inning later junior Brody Miller's sacrifice fly plated senior Alex Ables to give Butler a 4-3 lead. A batter later, freshman Jackson Schilling (1-for-2, 1 RBI) drove a liner to right-field, scoring senior Mitch Strehle, extending the lead to 5-3.
The Wolves would threaten in the sixth inning with a runner at first and two outs. West Clermont's Michael Hibbs tried to steal second, but Schilling fired a laser beam to second base, cutting down Hibbs for the clutch, inning ending out.
From there, Butler pitcher Landon Case would sit the Wolves down in order to secure the Butler win. Case (2-0) went the distance for the Aviators, as the senior righty turned in a solid complete game performance with five strikeouts.
Butler returns to action on Tuesday, with the first game of a key division series against Troy. The Trojans will host Tuesday's match-up, with the first pitch slated for 5:00 pm.
