VANDALIA - The Aviators picked up a big win Saturday afternoon, taking care of business against MAC juggernaut Coldwater (16-4) with a 6-3 win. The victory lifts Butler to 18-5 overall and 12-3 in the MVL.
Sophomore Mason Reckner (2-1) got the start and win for Butler, working five innings with two strikeouts and three runs allowed. Reckner was relieved by fellow sophomore Hunter Richardson, who earned the save, closing out the final two innings of hitless baseball with two punchouts.
The duo was backed by a great defensive effort, highlighted by a spectacular diving catch in centerfield by Cayden Borchers, flashy glovework by Jayden Watkins at the hot corner and another bulldog performance by Mitch Strehle behind the plate.
Junior Sam Mitchell finished his day at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBI, Borchers was 1-for-2 with a run and a RBI. Richardson doubled with a RBI, while Watkins and Austin Flohre each added a RBI in the win.
Butler returns to action on Monday with a MVL matchup at Stebbins. Game time is set for 5:00 pm.
