Butler Soars Past Sidney 14-0

SIDNEY - The Aviators (8-2,4-1) completed their sweep of the Yellow Jackets Tuesday evening with a 14-0, run-rule win over Sidney (5-2, 4-2).

The Aviators outhit Sidney 15-1, giving senior starter Evan Ables (3-0) all the offense, he needed and then some. The senior righty worked two innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

The Jackets tried to rally in the bottom half of the first inning, loading the bases – but Ables shutdown those hopes with back-to-back punch outs to end the inning.

Butler erupted the very next inning for nine runs, putting the game out of reach at that point.

Sophomore Russ Stratman continued to do damage from the plate this season, finishing 4-for-4 with a triple.

Sophomore Max Rubins went 2-for-3 with two RBI, senior Cayden Borchers was 2-for-3 with an RBI and senior Jayden Watkins was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and two doubles.

Senior Adam Townsend and sophomore Hunter Richardson also doubled in the win.

Sophomore Mason Reckner and senior Kyle Myers did yeoman’s work out of the bullpen for the Aviators, combining for five strikeouts and three innings of hitless baseball.

Butler returns to action on Friday with a big-time showdown at home against division foe Troy (6-4, 5-1) at 5:00 pm.
